Editorial Policy

The rules this site is written under. They are published so you can hold us to them.

Sourcing

Factual claims about fees, regulations and deadlines are sourced to primary documents: the Federal Register, FMCSA, the eCFR, the IRS, and the relevant state agency. Cost and market data is sourced to named research, principally the American Transportation Research Institute's annual Operational Costs of Trucking analysis and the U.S. Energy Information Administration's fuel price series.

Where a figure is derived from published data rather than published directly, the derivation is shown. Where a figure depends on individual circumstances and cannot be responsibly generalised, we say that instead of inventing a range.

Dating and review

Every page displays the date it was last reviewed. Regulatory and fee content is scheduled for review at least quarterly, and immediately when we become aware of a change. A page that has not been re-checked does not get a refreshed date.

How content is produced

Drafting is assisted by AI tools working from the primary sources listed above. Every page is then reviewed, fact-checked against those sources and edited by a human before publication, and is republished only after the same check. We consider the disclosure more useful than the alternative of staying quiet about it.

What we do not do: publish at volume for its own sake, spin up pages that restate a competitor's article, or generate content that adds nothing a reader could not get elsewhere. If a page has nothing to add on a topic, we do not publish it.

Independence from advertising

The site is funded by display advertising. Advertisers have no visibility into or influence over editorial decisions, and no advertiser is given favourable coverage. We do not publish sponsored posts, paid guest posts, paid links or affiliate links, and we do not accept payment to include or exclude a company.

If this ever changes, the change will be disclosed prominently on this page and on affected articles before it takes effect.

Corrections

When we publish something wrong, we correct it and record what changed and when on the affected page. We do not silently edit a factual error out of existence. To report one, use the contact page.

Limits

This site publishes general information. It is not legal, tax, financial, insurance or compliance advice, no relationship is created by reading it, and it cannot account for your state, your operation or your circumstances. Confirm anything that matters with the relevant agency or a qualified professional before acting on it.
